My son stands next to me in the doorway
We look out at the land together
Eyes roaming over the fields the trees the river
The sun already high only reaches my waist
My son does not reach that high yet
I run my finger through his hair
It is hot in the sun
I crouch then sit beside him
the sun is hot on my face
I squint out at this new perspective
the world is bigger from down here
